Hope on the heritage bus and explore the gateway to Africa, the vibrant art scenes of Accra, we bask ourselves in the rich culture and capture memorable times at Accra’s favorite tourist locations. The tour begins at the iconic location that embodies Ghana’s Independence; Blackstar Gate, we dive deep into more history as we visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, final resting place of Ghana’s first president. From there we capture the rich heritage while appreciating local crafts at the Ghana National Museum & Accra Arts Center. Interact with locals through a market experience at the biggest commercial market in the city.
We end our tour with a taste of local delicacies to soothe our pallets the Ghana style!!
A visit to Ghana’s central region is not complete without some adventures at the Kakum National Park, which has one of Africa’s famous rainforest canopy walkways. Then we head to the Cape Coast Castle for a guided tour which will acquaint you with its many interesting features including Dalzel Tower, the slave dungeons, and the cannons and mortars used in the Castle’s defense.
We end our reflective day with lunch and views of the Atlantic.
We immerse ourselves in an emotional experience as we retrace the routes of our ancestors, 400 years of ancestral history await us!! First, we’ll explore the slave market at Assin Manso. Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park was one of the largest slave markets for gathering people to sell into slavery during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is especially worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast slave castle since you will be following the route taken by the ancestors of many African Americans.
We will visit the village of Adanwomase which has been known for weaving kente cloth since the 17th century and has served as the royal weaving village for the Asantehene (Asante King). We will start by paying a visit to the community kente workshop, where you can try thread spinning, warping and weaving. Then tour the village to see the chief’s palace, the traditional healer’s shrine, the oldest house (300-plus years) a cocoa farm and a forest shrine.
Finally, we head to Ntonso, the homeland of Adinkra cloth and the only place in Ghana where traditional Adinkra is made locally from scratch. Ntonso is still Ghana’s biggest producer of adinkra, a cloth famed for its symbols and proverbial wisdom.
Relax, unwind and get ready for the last dinner for the tour!!!
